
SERVICE RIFLE
The service rifle team competes with the M16A2 rifle, which is modified for accuracy.
Competitors must his targets between 200 and 1000 yards. Select members of the team also compete with bolt-action rifles equipped with both telescopic and aperture sights. Bolt-action competitors must hit targets between 800 and 1000 yards.
The team also advises in the rifle phase of the U.S. Army Small Arms Championships, an event hosted by the Army Marksmanship Unit for regular Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard Soldiers, as well as cadets. These Soldiers compete with issue weapons and full combat equipment in a variety of events, emphasizing both precision marksmanship and physical fitness.
During the competitions, the AMU team provides marksmanship instruction to competitors, and carefully monitors the matches.
