SERVICE PISTOL
The service pistol team competes with a variety of pistols, including the .22 caliber, center-fire and .45 caliber pistols, along with the M9 pistol, which is modified for accuracy.
Shooters participate in slow-fire (50 yards to the target), timed-fire and rapid-fire matches (25 yards). These events make up the national match course and aggregate competitions.
The team also competes in the NRA Action Pistol Championships, a four-stage event that demands extreme accuracy. This competition is considered to be one of the most difficult pistol championships in the world.
Service Rifle and Service Pistol teams play a vital part in connecting with the American people. Directed by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), both teams are tasked with the responsibility of conducting the Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) at the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio each year.
